Vedanta awards scholarships to girls
PANJIM: Vedanta, as a part of its CSR initiative, has launched ‘Sesa Girl’s Scholarship Award’ on the occasion of International Women’s Day at Goa Engineering College, Farmagudi. The chief guest on the occasion was DySP Mrs Sunita Sawant along with key note speakers Ms Leena Verenkar- Head CSR, Vedanta Sesa Iron Ore Goa and Vijay Kumar- Head, Vedanta Iron Ore Goa. The Sesa Girls scholarship was awarded to six female engineering students of Mining, Electrical, Mechanical and Civil specialties. The students who were awarded Sesa Scholarship are Nisha Mahendra Gupta, Naomi Hazel Pereira, Risha Milind Hegde, Teresa Bhat, Pooja Siyaram Sandilya, Pratiksha Nagraj Patil.
SST empowers 184,000 women
PANJIM: The Srinivasan Services Trust (SST), the social arm of TVS Motor Company, has empowered 184,000 women through self help groups, this financial year alone. Self Help Groups (SHG) is women collective, where they team up and become entrepreneurs. Together, they are able to access more credit, meet their loan repayments and get better prices for the goods they make. So far, this financial year alone, women from as many as 13,500 SHGs have earned more than Rs 450 crore. This is the collective hard work of 184,000 women. They have, in turn, become role models in their communities through their hard work and determination to strive for a better quality of life. The women in the villages where SST is active, earn anything between Rs 1,500 and Rs 6,000 a month. In some cases, they earn much more. As a result of their increased confidence, women have taken the lead in helping SST implement various programmes.
Change of guard at CII Goa Council
PANJIM: Real Admiral (Retd) Shekhar Mital, NM Chairman and MD Goa Shipyard Limited was nominated as Chairman of the CII Goa while Lalit Saraswat was nominated as the Vice Chairman.
