‘Chedva Tum Vazoi’ the latest single written by P Agnelo Fernandes was released recently on YouTube. With its meaningful lyrics, one factor that stands out is the trumpet solos performed by Velrose Pereira, a woman musician and the reason behind the song. Considering Pereira as a muse, the song celebrates and empowers women brass instrument players. The lyrics focus on her musical journey and her sincere passion for playing the trumpet. Just like Pereira’s parents, the song highlights the importance of parents supporting their children in furthering their talent which can open a world of musical performances for these young women.
The team behind the song includes lyricist, composer and singer Pio Agnelo Fernandes, Velrose Pereira on the trumpet, music, mixing and mastering by Revlon Jackson. The dubbing was done at Vel-Tuned Studio, cinematographer and editor is Joson Fernandes, the creative head is Raj Vishwakarma, drone shooting is by Jovitan D’Costa and the video is directed by Euban Pereira.
In May 2022, Pio Agnelo Fernandes and Velrose Pereira performed together at ‘Modur Talle’, organised by Orlim Social Action Team and at a Konkani Pop Musical Show by Our Lady of Rosary Chapel, Loutolim. Pereira's finesse over the trumpet inspired Fernandes to write a song encouraging more girls to come forward and play different musical instruments.
Originally from St Estevam, Pereira is a Goan singer-songwriter, trumpeteer, and actor based in Toronto, Canada. She has completed her under graduation in Theatre studies and performance at York University. She has been performing for Konkani shows across the globe and finds every opportunity to come back home to Goa. “It has been a pleasure working with one of Goa’s top most lyricists. I’m truly humbled by his kind gesture to compose a song inspired by my musical journey. I still remember the day I got a call from Fernandes and he asked me to listen to a song that he had written. I just thought it would be a normal song, little did I know, that it was written about me. I consider this a blessing from God and it’s been a motivating factor for me. The team that we worked with has been amazing and so cooperative. My special shout out to Joson, Euban, Revlon, Velroy, Raj, the team at the Figueiredo mansion, my lovely family and to all the people that have supported us in any way and form in this project,” says Velrose Pereira.
Pio Agnelo Fernandes says, “I have seen the passion with which Velrose performs and it is because of her parents’ unwavering support that she has built her confidence on stage. I would like to tell parents to motivate their children especially girls to learn music. It is such an important art that will never go to waste, no matter where you are or how old you become. Youngsters should learn music now when they have the time and learn it full heartedly.”
