Fr Agnel College of Arts & Commerce, Pilar staged their tiatr, ‘I am Sorry’ at the third All Goa Inter Collegiate/HSS Tiatr Competition 2023-24 held at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.

Tiatr ‘I am Sorry’ penned by Fr Milton Rodrigues and directed by Shantaram Pawar is a suspense family melodrama revolving around Avila (Avila Pereira), her family and her college mates.

A photo of Avila with an elderly man is made viral on social media in the college. Her name gets tarnished and life is made miserable due to that one photograph on social media.

Avila loses her mother and her close friend as well. In the second half of the play and in the concluding scene Avila is proved innocent. And all those involved in the crime humbly utter ‘I am Sorry’ to the victim of harassment and torture. But will those words of apology justify the act, which has already caused much loss and claimed two lives? Will it rectify the wrong?

Tiatr, ‘I am Sorry’ carried a good dose of suspense throughout and all the students involved in the play gave their best of performance. Among all the artistes, Avila Pereira and Karol Fernandes gave a splendid performance. They were well supported by Lyam, Alister, Alloysea, Jerrico, Maria, Belincia and the rest.

In the comic acts, there were four people, namely Romeo (Alister Fernandes) and Juliet (Doyvina Naze Mascarenhas), Marian (Jerrico Vaz) and Marialina (Maria Savila Fernandes), who tried to entertain, but in the first half the comedy dosage was in excess.

In the category of songs, there was a variety and the renditions were equally good. But a little more practice with the band would have brought the best in songs. Excess of light effects during the interludes was a sheer distraction. Roy Menezes as the band leader along with Nolvert (trumpet), Melwyn Vaz (keyboard), Tony Fernandes (bass) and Xavier Fernandes (drums) provided good live music.

The stage sets by Purushottam Mardolkar deserve a special mention and he also handled the background music during the show. Regina Cunha worked on the costumes and Gurudas Mardolkar worked on the make-up.
