An exhibition dedicated to Lord Ganesh

Four Goan artists will offer a pictorial offering to Lord Ganesh through the exhibition of their paintings. ‘Ahum Brahmasmi’, a group exhibition by Omkar Banaule, Vasudev Shetye, Praveen Naik and Siddharth Gaitonde, will be held at Art Gallery of Art and Culture Department, Patto, Panjim from August 15 to 19. The exhibition will feature over 40 paintings by the artists who have taken inspiration from Lord Ganesh.

Omkar Banaule from Pirna completed his Masters in Fine Arts from Sir JJ School of Art Mumbai. He has participated in many exhibitions and art camps across India. He was also awarded the Goa State Art Award, Art Society of India Award and Prafulla Dahanu Award. He is currently working as an assistant professor in Goa College of Art, Altinho. “I love to work with realistic and academic art. My works are based on my experience,” says Banaule.

Vasudev Shetye from Korgao in Pernem is currently working as an art teacher in Shree Shantadurga Vidyalaya, Pirna. “My paintings reflect the Goan social life, culture and the beautiful colours of Goa. My paintings are a reflection of life that I see around me and usually a strong dominant colour scheme is seen in my work,” says Shetye, who has also received the State Art Award in painting as well as sculpture category organized by Kala Academy.

Praveen Naik from Cumbharjua completed his graduation in Fine Art and post graduation in Literature. He has been working in the field of visual arts for over 22 years and has been a visiting lecturer in Goa College of Art for six years. “My expressions are created with multiple media and having various experimentation. I am very adaptable with artworks in realistic to abstract way of expression,” says Naik, who has also exhibited and participated in various art exhibitions and art related events.

Siddharth Gaitonde also completed his Master in Fine Arts (MFA) from Sir JJ School of Art, Mumbai and has four State Art Awards by Kala Academy Goa, a State Award by Lalit Kala Academy, Delhi, a State Award by All India Fine Art and Crafts Society (AIFACS), New Delhi, three Kalanand Awards by Prafulla Dahanukar Art Foundation, Mumbai and the Jhunjhunwala Award by JJ School of Art, Mumbai to his name. “Elements of nature form the inevitable part of my most of the artistic creations. As an artist, I try to connect to nature through my art works. For ‘Aham Brahmasmi’ which means ‘I am the Universe’, I tried to bring about that concept in my paintings which are based on Ganesha. The expressions are more spontaneous than technically planned,” says Gaitonde.

All four artists have graduated from Goa College of Art, Altinho, and have been participating in various art exhibitions in their artistic career. They also had a group exhibition together at Art Chamber, Calangute. The five day exhibition will give art lovers an opportunity to see their devotion to Lord Ganesh on canvas.
