Late Comedian Selvy’s last stage appearance was in his
tiatr, ‘8 Dis’. Many tiatr lovers waited to watch him in the next shows but
unfortunately, his demise gave a shock to the entire tiatr community and tiatr
lovers. With the launch of the new OTT app that will exclusively cater to the
Konkani audience, Super 8 OTT was launched with ‘8 Dis’ and it was the same
tiatr that had Selvy acting in it. Created by film producer and director,
Joywin Fernandes, the OTT app has been receiving a great response and in over a
week, it has already received 1500 subscribers.
In the Konkani film industry for over two decades, Joywin
has produced and directed several short films and feature films. He also
closely watches the trends followed by other industry and was disheartened when
Konkani was not featured on any OTT platforms. “There are many online platforms
that features films, series and short films yet there is nothing in Konkani.
Youtube features Konkani songs and short films and even films. I have always
watched Netflix and Amazon and I thought that Konkani deserves something on the
similar lines. No one was ready to take up the idea so I took the initiative
and released ‘8 Dis’ for free. I also uploaded my film, ‘Hasta La Vista’ on the
app. I am very happy that the subscribers are increasing,” says Joywin.
Speaking about what content will be posted, Joywin explains,
“I will be uploading ‘Journey’, a 45 minutes series soon. I have four movies in
the pipeline, Kevin D’Mello and Jennifer Fernando starrer, ‘Tu Na Tor’, an
untitled love triangle film, ‘Wedding.com’ featuring Paresh Parab and Rajdeep
Naik and ‘Lucifer’, a 3D Goan superhero film in Konkani with Rajesh Pednekar
and Kevin D’Mello.”
If the content is uploaded on YouTube, there are chances of
the video being downloaded and uploaded on different channels but Joywin is
very vigilant with the content on Super 8 OTT. “I would like the audience to
support the Goan app by watching the programmes as it is free and later on
subscription and pay per view will be added. Right now, the app is available on
Android and websites while iOS and TV will be later. People are asking for more
content but I am waiting for filmmakers to produce good content. For ‘8 Dis’, I
had recorded the tiatr for late Com Selvy and Com Agostinho. Since Agostinho
had the rights for the tiatr, he gave me permission to upload the video. The
videos can be downloaded but if they are uploaded on YouTube, then they will be
reported and deleted,” says Joywin.
Busy with his tiatr, ‘Past is Past’ in the UK, Com Agostinho
was delighted that Konkani finally had its own OTT platform. “The name Joywin
means joy as in happiness and with win, we have already won. Whoever named him,
really thought about him and his future. I remember Joywin taking a lot of
trouble and shooting with a small camera in his early days as a director. I
congratulate him for taking this good step and people should support the
channel as this is exclusively for Goans. The first tiatr was Com Selvy’s tiatr
and tiatr lovers really supported it. I will be uploading the Konkani series
that I have created in alphabetical order. So far, ‘Apurbai’, ‘Birthday’,
‘Carol’, ‘Dotor’, ‘Eksuro’ and ‘Fulla’ is ready and will be uploaded soon,”
says Com Agostinho, who will be bringing his tiatr, ‘Past is Past’ to Goa in
January 2024.
Myron Correia who is known as Com Myron and Jr Selvy is
acting in different tiatrs like Comedian Richard’s tiatr ‘Ghov Khevta Jugar
Bail Zata Fugar’, Lawry Travasso’s ‘Sopnantlim Fulam’ and Com Agostinho’s and
Com Joyel’s next tiatr ‘Chor’. He was very happy that people still got a chance
to watch his father’s performance through ‘8 Dis’. “This OTT is a very unique
platform as it caters to only Konkani content. It is the first OTT that put up
my father’s last tiatr, ‘8 Dis’. This app will be very helpful to connect Goans
and it will be great in promoting exclusively Konkani audience,” says Myron.
Theatre and film actor, Kevin D’Mello says, “I congratulated
Joywin on the launch and it is a good experience because the audience wants to
see Konkani content as there are no projects on other OTT platforms in Konkani
language. Through this app, people can even enjoy a tiatr in the comfort of
their homes. Joywin also offered me two roles in his upcoming films. One is a
romantic film, ‘Tu Na Tor’ and the second is ‘Lucifer’, the first 3D film in
Konkani where I play the first Goan superhero,” says Kevin.
Optimistic about the future of Konkani through the OTT
platform, Super 8 OTT, Joywin hopes to receive the support of the Goan audience
as more content will make its way to the platform.
