Celebrating classical dance

The three-day Classical Dance Festival to be held in Mardol will feature artists of national as well as international repute performing Indian Classical dances like Bharatanatyam, Kathakali, Odissi dance, Kuchipudi and Kathak

The 21st edition of the prestigious Classical Dance Festival jointly organised by Kala Academy Goa and West Zone Cultural Centre, Udaipur will be held on March 13, 14 and 15, 2015 at 7pm daily with the courtesy of Shree Mahalasa Saunsthan, Mardol in the precincts of Mahalasa Devasthan, Mardol, Goa. The event will see participation of national as well as international artists in the field of classical dance. The festival will be inaugurated on March 13, 2015 at the hands of Vinayak Khedekar, renowned Folklorist and Folk Researcher, in the presence of managing committee members of Shree Mahalasa Saunsthan.

On March 13, 2015, the students of Kalanjali, Margao will present Bharatanatyam recital in group choreography under the guidance of Guru Deeptha Rubasundaram. The students, Vidhya Desai, Akshata Sulebhavi, Disha Desai, Saguga Kenkre, Bhagvati Bhat, Raksha, Kirti Rege and Karen Carvalho will be accompanied by Guru Deeptha Rubasundaram, Venkatesh, Balsubramaniam and Kumar.

This will be followed by Odissi dance in group choreography by Jyoti Shrivastava supported by co-dancers Rahul Varshaney, Varsha Das, Deepshikha Govil, Ranjeeta Hegde and Esha Das. The accompaniment will be provided by Prashant Behera and Siddhart Kishor, Prafulla Mangraj, Dheeraj Pandey and Subroto Dey.

The day will conclude with Kathak Dance in group choreography presented by renowned Kathak guru Rajendra Gangani and his disciple Anu Sinha from Noida. Geetika Singh and Aishwarya will be the co-dancers. Vijay Parihar, Karan Gangani, Kishor Gangani will provide accompaniment for the Kathak dance presentation.

On March 14, 2015, Mandira Joshi, faculty member of Kala Academy’s Dance faculty will present Bharatanatyam solo dance recital. Her Guru, Dr Sandhya Purecha, Shivprasad, Dakshinamurthy Pillai and Satish Sheshadri will provide instrumental and vocal support for the concert.

This will be followed by Kathakali presentation ‘Kiratam’ by artists of Kerala Kala Mandalam, Cheruthurthy- Thrissur. Kalamandalam Mukundan, Kalamandalam Suryanarayan, Kalamandalam Aromal, Kalamandalm Dhanesh, Kalamandalm Ananthu and Kalamandalm Shyam Da will be the main artist playing the characters in the Kathakali dance presentation. They will be supported by Ajesh and Sudheesh, Vijay Krishnan, Prashanth, Shiv Das and Arun and Manesh. The group will be led by PR Jaychandran.

On the concluding day, March 15, 2015, renowned Kuchipudi Danseuse Sandhya Raju will present Kuchipudi solo supported by Chandra Rao, Shiva, Shrinivas, Subramaniam and Venkatesh.

The festival will conclude with Kathak dance in group choreography by Anuj Mishra of Anuj Arjun Mishra Dance Academy, Lucknow. He will be supported by co-dancers Kantika Mishra, Neha Singh, Sneha Kashyap, Akshara Khare, Manju Malkani. Vikas Mishra, Hriday Dessai and Hayat Hussain Khan will provide instrumental and vocal support.
