Every Goan should be Lokayukta, for corruption to end

The just-retired Goa Lokayukta, Justice (Retd) PK Mishra passed a slew of orders related to corruption cases, in which government functionaries and ministers were at the receiving end. While Justice Mishra has been rightly hailed a hero by the people of Goa, we should whether there should be a serious introspection about the role common Goans can also play in eradicating corruption. After all, it takes two hands to clap. Corruption can be eradicated if every Goan becomes a Lokayukta. Café seeks the view of Goans from all corners of Goa

Corruption has now become part of our culture, it will be a huge task to handle it. Eliminating it is close to impossible. However, if we teach children at the grass-root level that this is evil it could possibly help change the corrupt culture we live in for the future- Timothy Lobo  Porvorim

You can’t blame the government alone. We Goans must have zero tolerance for corruption. It is the people who vote for corrupt politicians and encourage corrupt activities because they want a shortcut to all issues. However, this government too seems to be a bit lax when dealing with corruption issues, maybe because of the COVID 19 pandemic. The attention of the government is diverted to other issues, but I request the government and the CM to take strict action on matters related to corruption in the state of Goa-

Poonam Govekar  Mapusa

It seems the government is not keen on containing corruption. The government must come down on corrupt activities with a heavy hand. Citizens have an equal responsibility to contain corruption. We must not support corrupt politicians and corrupt officials. It is the duty of the people to ensure that corruption is not encouraged by sticking to principles- Siddharth Mehta Navelim

There are several bodies working for a corruption-free system but they have been unsuccessful. It is our responsibility to educate people which will help them to stay aware of this- Madhura Sawant Panjim

Corruption is a major issue faced by the nation for ages. To tackle corruption a 4P strategy should be implemented. Pursue:- Prosecuting and disrupting people engaging in Corruption.

Prevent:- Preventing people Engaging in Corruption.

Protect:- Increasing protection against corruption  Prepare:- Prepare a plan to reduce corruption when it takes place.

We the People are equally responsible in this. Corruption does not start with one hand. Both hands should follow the protocols and be sincere in wiping out this sin. Has "Any Government" been ever serious about giving to people easily what they need?

Moving towards the online based system can reduce corruption at an extent-  Clesito Fernandes  Fatorda

The first and foremost solution is to change the government processes. If the members of the government and procedures are transparent one can reduce corruption drastically. Besides, provision related to electing people’s representatives must be stringent. If there is any case filed against a candidate ( as opposed to being convicted in a criminal case)  then he would not be eligible for election. Offering direct connectivity between government and public can reduce corruption by increasing direct contact between government and the governed. E-governance could help a lot in this direction- Omi Tunes, Vasco-Da-Gama
