GOAN ENTERTAINMENT MANAGER MAKING WAVES IN THE MIDDLE EAST
Home-grown Dubai-based DJ-turned-Entertainment- Manager Zinaida Mascarenhas makes it big at the TPMEA Awards 2018, held in Dubai, UAE
At the inaugural edition of the TPMEA Awards, held for the first time this year on May 9, 2018, at Lock Stock & Barrel JBR The Walk, Dubai, in the UAE, Zinaida Mascarenhas did Goa proud by bagging the award for ‘Entertainment Manager of the Year’, establishing her at the top spot in the live events and production industry of the Middle East. TPMEA (Total Production Middle East & Africa) established in 2015, is the sister publication to Total Production International (TPi), the leading global publication for the live events, festival and concert touring industry. TPMEA is the next generation of TPi’s niche expertise in the live event trade media. TPMEA in association with EFM Global Logistics, organised the TPMEA Awards 2018, with the aim of acknowledging the past year’s outstanding individuals working in the live events and production industry of the Middle East, and honouring those who put the Middle East on the live event map. Besides ‘Entertainment Manager of the Year’, other award categories included ‘Production Manager’, ‘Lighting Designer/Engineer’, ‘Live Audio Engineer’, ‘Rigger’, ‘Video Visionary’ and so on. Zinaida Mascarenhas, who hails from Chicalim, Goa, has been working in the events industry for the last 18 years. Starting out as a DJ in Goa, she has since expanded her reach in the entertainment industry, with her involvement in stage management and artiste bookings. Her career has given her the opportunity to live and work in cities across the world, in Mumbai, Sri Lanka, Paris and the UK. She has been based in Dubai for the last few years, where she now runs her own entertainment management company ‘Stories by Zinaida’. “My background as a DJ working in nightlife and events provided me with the opportunity to work in entertainment full-time. With 5 years’ experience working as an Artiste-Booker in Dubai, my company ‘Stories by Zinaida’ was born!” she says, speaking of her journey thus far. Her ultimate end goal is to build a little empire of her own within the live entertainment industry. With her team at Stories by Zinaida, established early 2017, she has thus far been involved in the organisation of events ranging from corporate events, public events and festivals, to private parties. This involves such details as hiring world-class award-winning artistes and performers including dancers, DJs and musicians, a capella groups, acrobats and magicians, Sufi performers, parkour performers and so on; coming up with original themed entertainment concepts such as their ‘Live Graffiti’ concept; and curating, programming and managing entertainment for events, for an exclusive clientele built over the years. Stories by Zinaida has organised numerous high-profile events, including the celebrations of the National Day of the UAE and Eid in Dubai, festivals and shows in Saudi Arabia, private events in exotic locales like the Seychelles, weddings, launches, anniversary celebrations, innovating entertainment concepts for brands such as Timberland ME and so on. For the last three years running, Zinaida and her team have landed one of the biggest entertainment contracts in the UAE – the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where she books and manages large numbers of international and local talent over four days at the event. Following the open call for entries for the TPMEA Awards, Zinaida was nominated for ‘Entertainment Manager of the Year’ in April this year. The ultimate award was determined on the basis of open online voting, through which, Zinaida beat out three other competitors in the industry for the award. Upon winning the prestigious award, Zinaida reached out in gratitude to well-wishers, saying: “Thrilled to take home the award for Entertainment Manager of the Year at last night’s TPMEA awards! Thank you to everyone that nominated us and voted, and to our team, clients and friends! This is such an honour; thank you for your trust and appreciation.” Having gained much success only a few years into her career, Zinaida and her company Stories by Zinaida have a bright future ahead of them in the field of live events and production in the Middle East.
