It is time for the free flow of ideas to inspire Goans through the DD Kosambi Festival of Ideas which kick-started with a talk by Makarand Sathe at Kala Academy, Panjim. The festival will continue with three talks till February 16, 2018. Cafe gives the details

Goa had initiated the DD Kosambi Festival of Ideas to commemorate the birth Centenary of the legendary Damodar Dharmanand Kosambi, the Indian historian, mathematician, statistician and polymath. This year marks the 11th edition of the DD Kosambi Festival of Ideas and will inspire the people of Goa through the talks by innovators and reformers in various fields. One of the most celebrated and awaited event by intellectuals, academicians, student community, business class sectors; the festival promises to broaden the perspective of its participants through the four days of interactive sessions with renowned personalities.

The D D Kosambi Festival of Ideas was inaugurated at hands of Govind Gaude, Minister of Art and Culture, Gurudas Pilarnekar, Director of Art and Culture in the presence of the speakers at Kala Academy, Panjim on February 13, 2018 which was followed by a talk on ‘Nationalism, Culture & Theatre: In the Times of Globalization’ by Makarand Sathe. Jaya Ramchandani will give a talk on ‘The Paradox of Learning in the 21st Century’ today, February 14, 2018 at 5pm. Lord Karan Bilimoria will speak on ‘A Parsi’s View on the Future of India, UK, and EU Relations in the Context of Brexit’ on February 15, 2018 at 5pm and the concluding talk will be by Sudhir Patwardhan on ‘What is Today’s Art About?’ on February 16, 2018 at 5pm.

Jaya Ramchandani, Director of The Story of Foundation, is a science educator, entrepreneur, and curator, with experience teaching physics and general science to students and adults alike. She is a co-founder of The Story Of Foundation that creates informal and accessible learning opportunities across science, philosophy, art, and culture, and also co-founded Sirius Interactive, a language solutions provider for researchers. Jaya will soon be joining UWC ISAK Japan as a physics teacher for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program.

Karan Bilimoria is the founder of Cobra Beer, one of the most awarded beers in the world. Lord Bilimoria is the Founding Chairman of the UK India Business Council, and was appointed the Lord Bilimoria of Chelsea, making him the first ever Zoroastrian Parsi to sit in the House of Lords. He was installed as the seventh Chancellor of the University of Birmingham, making him the first Indian-born Chancellor of a Russell Group University in Great Britain, and he is the President of the UK Council for International Students Affairs (UKCISA).

Sudhir Patwardhan is a painter whose work has been exhibited regularly in India and abroad in the past forty years. He is an occasional writer and lecturer on art, and also a curator who has focused on introducing new audiences to contemporary art. Patwardhan’s works are in the permanent collection of National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi and Mumbai; Roopankar Museum, Bhopal; Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, New Delhi; Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, USA and other public collections.
