In the journey of life, special occasions that dawn once in
a lifetime are to be cherished forever. And those treasured moments cannot be
erased from the book of long-lasting memories.
There was a period of time when special occasions such as
Baptism, Holy Communion, Confirmation and other unique and memorable events in
life were valued and adored by way of throwing parties after the religious
ceremonies. This trend continues in many Catholic families
and homes.
But apart from those throwaway parties with lavish buffets
set before the guests, there’s a new trend that has set in lately and many are
being carried away by it.
Of late, for any special occasion in the family, other than
those preparations for parties, get-togethers or family gatherings, the members
of the family desire that a special song be composed and sung for those
memorable events.
This new trend has set in lately in the Catholic community
and anyone from the family will pick up their favourite singer from among the
tiatrists and give them the task to compose and sing a special song for that
particular occasion or event.
And after the deal is struck with their favourite singer,
the singer who is picked up for the composing and rendition on that particular
and special occasion will in all earnest gather all the required and necessary
information from the concerned family members and work on the lyrics and tune
of the song. On the great day, apart from the rendition for that distinctive
event, the song is later uploaded on the YouTube channel to garner more views
from the people across the globe.
This new trend of singing unique songs on special occasions
has not only picked up in Goa, but across the world, including foreign countries
like the Gulf countries and UK, where Goans have settled. Probably without this
special song being rendered for all those distinguished guests on those
memorable occasions, no event would be termed as complete.
Undoubtedly, there’s a lot of homework to be done by the
singer before he/she could think of releasing the new composition for that
particular occasion. Probably, after the composition by way of lyrics and
music, there could also be the task of going in for the recording of the song
at the studios. The insertion of visuals of the family members in between the
song as interludes could also be another task on hand.
So there could be many things to be considered by the host
before the grand release of that particular and special song on that distinct
occasion. And of course, the appreciation follows after the release of the
song, both from those at the special event and later from the general public
when uploaded on the channel.
Noted singer on the tiatr stage, Lawry Travasso has always
been welcomed for his compositions on varied subjects. As far as songs for
special occasions, he has worked upon 150 songs for Baptism, First Holy
Communion, weddings, 21st and 50th birthdays. “There was an invitation for a
special song on the occasion of the month’s mind of a deceased,” he informed,
“and people seek songs to be composed and rendered even for the first and third
death anniversaries.”
“Composing of a song is not a tedious task,” the singer
shares, “and the entire task of music and recording could take a maximum of two
days.” “And in case of emergency,” he adds, “the song could be composed,
rendered and released even within 12 hours.”
With regards to live performances and presentations on the
channel, Lawry has mostly gone live for festive occasions and appearances on
his channel have been 80 percent. At both ends, he has received overwhelming
response from his fans.
Tracy de Calangute has carved a niche on the tiatr stage
through renditions and acting. Apart from her contribution towards the Konkani
stage, she has also made a bold entry in the composition of songs and
renditions for those special and memorable occasions. Till date, she has
composed around 5-6 songs for birthdays and anniversaries.
“Usually special songs are sought for weddings, silver and
golden wedding anniversaries,” Dias shared, but one of its kind, she also
worked upon a ‘pre-wedding toast song’, which was later uploaded on her YouTube
channel. “Composing of a song may take a day,” she informs, “and then for the
audio, video shooting it could be another day. Uploading on the channel helps
as it remains there as a memory forever and when it is shared, the subscribers
increase automatically, which adds to your revenue.”
For quite some time, siblings, Peviolla and Wilma Dias from
Loutulim were singing sensations on the tiatr stage. Their compositions and
renditions on stage were well accepted and applauded by the audience. Peviolla
has been working on the composition of songs and then her sister would join in
for the rendition in two different voices.
“Compositions and rendition of songs for different occasions
have already crossed 100-mark with work of 10-12 years,” Peviolla confesses.
“Many people would like to surprise their family members on special occasions
like 21st birthday or golden jubilee and so composing and rendition follow for
those memorable occasions,” she adds.
For Peviolla, composing of a song is a simple task and she
can do it instantly. “But the task thereafter of the audio and video recordings
takes at least one week to complete,” she reveals, “but after the entire
project is over, you enjoy the final product and satisfaction follows.”
Peviolla has gone live with her original compositions and
has also uploaded her songs on the YouTube channel for those distinctive
occasions. Now, while her sister, Wilma Dias is settled in UK, she composes
songs as and when required and sends them across to her sibling for renditions
abroad for various celebrations.
Valency D’Souza from Calangute has also been picked up by
those who know her personally for renditions on different occasions. She has
worked upon 15 songs for live performances at baptism, birthdays and weddings.
This singer also has two songs regards raising the toast for
weddings uploaded on the YouTube channel. “When it comes to live performances,”
she says, “you enjoy direct appreciation from the guests gathered at the venue.
But for songs on your channel, you tend to get more views across the globe.”
For the entire project from composing to recording and
releasing, Dias says it could be a 15-day venture depending upon the
availability of musicians and the studio. “But at the end of the day you find
fulfillment in whatever you do, as per the expectations of the customer,” she
adds.
Jr Reagan is another most sought singer for those special
occasions. He has composed and rendered around more than 150 songs for
occasions such as birthdays, weddings, anniversaries. He gathers information
from the concerned party well in advance, but composition and rendition is just
two hours before the celebration,” he mentions.
Jr Reagan’s compositions have been mostly raising the toast
for weddings and the demand is so high that there are advance bookings for one,
two years ahead. “People enjoy more when they have their favourite singer
performing live on the floor,” he says, “and recording on the mobiles follow
instantly.” When he works on a song for his channel, “the entire project takes
around 8 days, with recording and post-editing,” he conceals.
Evaristo de Arambol is another lyricist, composer and singer
of Konkani songs. Apart from his contribution on tiatr stage, he too has made
an entry into such a novel trend, wherein invitation for live renditions for
various occasions, especially weddings, has come in and audience appeal has
followed.
