Monsoons through the lens

An ace photographer based in Goa has been striking a chord with audiences all over with her ability to capture the best moments of the monsoons. As she focuses on the sea as her muse, the visuals in this monsoon series project have given people a moment to pause and enjoy the rains

With the Goan monsoon showers out in

full force, there has been an outpouring of complaints about the difficulties everyone seems to be facing due to the lack of civic apathy and overflowing drains.

On the other hand, a project undertaken by photographer Sandra D’Souza has caught the eye and attention of many and has, in many ways, allowed them to enjoy and embrace the rains.

“I love the sound of rain and growing things, amongst the many reasons monsoons is my favourite time of the year,” says Sandra, who is based in Benaulim.

“Once the monsoons set in, Iexplore the joys of a deserted beach, with dark clouds hugging the Arabian sea, which then turns wild and dances to the beat of the rain.Further inland, the colour green takes over and just about anywhere you look, you are treated to more than 50 shades of green. There is such a sense renewal and revival in the air,” adds Sandra.

She feels she has fallen under the spell of this beautiful Goa that inspired her to go on an overdrive in creating images like the monsoon series that has left an impression on many and left many others awestruck and she is looking forward to her two favourite festivals.“To top it all, two of my favourite festivals get celebrated in the thick of the monsoons: Sao Joao and Chikal Kalo,” says Sandra, while talking about her future works.

“Goa has inspired many an artist. The monsoons bring out the artist in me and since I am neither a poet nor a painter, I use my lens to capture the poetry of Goa in the rains,” she adds.
