Science Film Festival of India 2019 successfully covers 100 Institutes
As part of the run up to the Science Film Festival of India 2019, the successful completion of Film Screening and Expert Interaction in 100 Institutes, was celebrated at Matoshri Indirabai Baburao Khandeparkar High School, Ponda. The 4th Edition of the SCI-FFI 2019 will be held from January 16 to 19, 2019 at ESG complex, PanjimThe Science Film Festival of India is set to embark on its 4th Edition from January 16 to 19, 2019, ESG complex, Panjim. Prior to the Festival, pre-fest activity was organised all over the state of Goa.
Pre-fest activity for the SCIFFI ‘19 encompasses visits to educational institutes with a scientist all over the state of Goa, to show films/documentaries based on science, to the students. The aim is to enable the enthusiastic, impressionable young minds to interact with distinguished scientists specialised in that particular subject. The milestones in completing 100 schools till date were celebrated at Mount Litera Zee School, Vasco; Purshottam Wallavalkar High School, Mapusa; and Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts and Science, Gogol as the 75th, 50th and 25th institutes.
On January 8, 2019, the 100th institute, Matoshri Indirabai Baburao Khandeparkar High School, that is part of the Goa Vidyaprasarak Mandal (GVM) management, saw students from five other GVM institutes attending the event as well. Matoshri Indirabai Baburao Khandeparkar High School hosted a spectacular forum of science, with a distinguished panel of guests. The Chief Guest for the function was Prof (Dr) Gopal Mugeraya, Director of National Institute of Technology, Goa. He emphasised on how important it is to dream and more importantly pursue it single-mindedly. The Guest of Honour, Dr Neena Panandikar, Principal of Don Bosco College of Engineering, said, “Who would have known that computers one day could be folded and put into a bagI It is all about constructive innovation.” She also stated the importance and the need for career choices to be made in the field of science. Dr Anasuya Ganguly, Associate Professor, Biological Sciences at BITS-Pilani, Goa Campus was the resource person who then engaged the students with a short science based film and an interactive session. The event was also graced by Suhas J Godse, President of Vidnyan Parishad Goa, who briefed the audience about the highlights of the festival. He talked about the blockbuster film screenings and the opportunity the Film Festival presents to interact with important distinguished scientists and scholars. Abhay Bhamaikar listed the coverage and the success of the festival in the previous years along with the pre-fest of 2019, covering 79 schools, 15 higher secondary schools, six colleges up to date, with 47 Resource Persons, out of which 40 are doctorates and seven are research scholars. The Chairman of the GVM Management, Krishna Shetye, was also on the dais along with the Headmaster of the Institute Ashok Naik, said they were privileged to host the Pre-fest activity, with such dignitaries. Vidnyan Parishad in association with Department of Science and Technology, Government of Goa, National Institute of Oceanography, Entertainment Society of Goa, Vidyan Prasar also expressed how they are looking forward to hosting the 4th Edition of the Science Film Festival of India 2019. Various films based on enrapturing Science concepts will be screened to captivate the interest of the eager students, from January 16 to 19, at the ESG complex, Panjim.
