Goa lose in semi-finals against Mizoram in football

AGENCIES, PUNE: Suman Yadav and Vaishnavi Prabho won bronze for Goa in boxing at the 2nd Khelo India youth Games at Balewadi Pune Maharashtra on Thursday. 

In the U-17 girls match, Suman lost against Anju Devi of Karnataka in the semi-finals with a score of 5-0 in full three rounds.

Meanwhile in the girls U-21, Vaishnavi Prabhu lost to Amrit of Haryana who put up brave fight before going down fighting, Prabhu had to settle for the bronze. 

With these two medals, Goa’s medal count went up to 17 medals which includes eight silver and nine bronze. Thus Goa’s campaign comes to an end at the 2 Khelo India youth Games with only football third place match remaining as they lost against Mizoram in penalty shootout in the semi-final. Playing a defensive game throughout the 90 +4 minutes, Goa players held fort and did not allow the Mizo strike force to penetrate the Goan defence and goal, however couldn’t replicate the same performance in the penalty shootout as three Goan players failed to put the ball past the Mizo keeper. Goa will now play the losers of Kerala v. Punjab match for the bronze medal.
