OHeraldo at School is the leading newspaper for young readers in Goa and if you want to add a little more fun activities to the mix of this great learning experience, then kids must attend the Summer Fest for the children in the age group of 5-12 years. The Summer Fest will be held on April 6 at Clube Harmonia de Margao from 10.30 am to 5 pm and on April 7 at St Britto's School, Mapusa from 10.30 am to 5 pm.

The day-long workshop will include activities like dance, food workshop, fun games and spot prizes and a drawing competition with prizes by Artline. The children will be provided with art materials. Another added bonus with

all these exciting activities is a free one year subscription to the 'OHeraldo at School' children's weekly newspaper, 40 issues per year.

Mother of four sons, Isabel from Margao has three sons who regularly participate in the various workshops organised by Herald at School over the years. Besides their academic syllabus, she is happy that they show interest in different activities which helps expand their imagination. “The activities organised at these workshops really captures the child’s interest. It also shows what exactly the child likes to explore. While some might like dancing, they will be others who enjoy singing. The day is also divided into 4-5 activities and keeps the child bound with different workshops,” says Isabel.

She further adds, “As a parent, I have attended a workshop and I realised that the one-day workshops organised by Herald attracts a big number of children from different places. It also gives the children an opportunity to make new friends, while learning something new. Learning is always good and even though these are short one hour long workshops, the children pick up very soon. When they attended the Diwali workshop, the boys were eager to make their own designs in paper mache after learning to make paper mache Narkasur. They also made colourful paper lanterns. They return home with lots of stories too.

Herald also provides them with healthy snacks and lunch.”

Michael Mendonca, the owner of a restaurant in Vagator, learnt the art of baking in Goa. Now, he transmits the same enthusiasm and energy towards learning with a younger crowd. He will be conducting a food workshop for the children where he and his team including Zarina Mendonca will be training children in creating a colourful Mango Trifle Pudding Cup. For the previous workshop, OHeraldo at School Christmas Party, children enjoyed making cookies with colourful icing to coat cookies with imagination.

“It is a great experience to guide and train children. They are all beautiful minds and are eager to learn with lots of questions. Some children are even eager to learn the recipes and work on their own. We had lots of fun for the cooking making workshop and this time, we will work with mangoes, which is the fruit of the season. The children will learn how to make their own mango trifle pudding. These are easy to make dishes and we don’t give them to work with knives. They can recreate the dish at home too with their family and even experiment with their creativity after the workshop too,” explains Michael.

Glavan D’Mello is the founder member of the dance academy, Dance-O-Philia that will be conducting a Jazz hip-hop dance session for the children. Children love to dance and put them together in a group and their energy level increases watching other children dance too. Over a decade in the dance industry in Goa, Dance-O-Philia understands the needs of the children and accordingly they plan the dance routines.

For this workshop, the children will have fun learn some cool jazz and hip-hop steps. Porvorim-based Glavan informs, “At Dance-O-Philia, we train participants right from tiny tots, kids, teens and adults in jazz, hjip-hop, contemporary and ballet. In this workshop over the weekend, children will be able to improve their posture and build their self-confidence through dance. They get exposed to new dance steps in jazz and hip-hop as well as meet new friends. We have been conducting workshops for children for over ten years and we know how to pull their attentions and keep them entertained and excited. The children are always focused when it comes to dance.”

Amit Pinto, the president of Clube Harmonia de Margao says that the workshops conducted by Herald always receives a great response. “The parents are always happy and enthusiastic for their children to attend the workshops here in Margao. These are great activities for their summer holidays,” says Amit.

The children will be treated with lip-smacking lunch and refreshments. The workshop will conclude with presentation of certificates to each child who will return home with great memories and a wonderful learning experience.
