Lorna gets lifetime award while Hema Sardesai received ‘pride of Goa’ among the finest in Konkani music at the World Konkani Music Awards

 The ‘World Konkani Music Awards’ was held over the weekend and it attended by everyone in the business as well their well-wishers. The event, conceptualized by musician, Allan Vaz kicked off with rendition of songs, dances, followed by the declaration of awards in various categories.

While accepting the ‘Best Lyricist Award’, Shirang mentioned that it took him lot of effort to reach at the level where he is today, “and this is the fruit,” he added.

The ‘Rising Star Award’ was presented to Victoria D’Costa, who expressed her thanks to her family and everyone else and for standing by her.

The ‘Best Emerging Talent Award’ (female category) was presented to Silvina Lopes who said “It’s because of my mom that I am here today,” she said, “it was my dream to be here and I feel honoured.”

Sanval Parab won the ‘Best Emerging Talent Award’ (male category). The ‘Best Konkani Music Video Award’ was presented to Sidney Soares, who had a message for the youth. He said “never give up and keep going. You will be a winner.”

Darrel Mascarenhas bagged the ‘Best Music Album Award’ and Eric Ozario of ‘Mandd Sobhann’, Mangalore, while receiving the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Konkani Music Award’ said that he has always served Konkani to the best of his ability and would continue to do the same in the near future too.

Speaking as the chief guest, the Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant said that Konkani brings everyone together. “Let this effort continue to bring Konkani and music together, irrespective of religion,” he added.

A special award was also presented to Hemaa Sardesai (the Pride of Goa), followed by the ‘Lifetime Contribution Award’ to Lorna Cordeiro (the nightingale of Goa). She expressed her gratitude to Chris Perry for making her a star.

The ‘Best Music Director Award’ was presented to Juze Fernandes, while Onkaray Namah bagged the ‘Best Song Award’. Silvia Fernandes picked up the ‘Best Female Singer Award’, while the ‘Best Male Singer Award’ was presented to Rohit Gawande, who said that it goes to the entire team of ‘Bhuim Mhaji’ and offered it to his ailing mother.

Baba Sehgal, who was the celebrity guest at the event, said that Goan music is purely original music.Later Hemaa Sardesai, Lorna and Baba Sehgal jammed up to the popular song ‘Bebdo’.

All the winners expressed their gratitude to the Almighty and their families.
