Watching a Konkani film on the big screen isn’t just entertaining; it also fills you with pride and joy. This reaction will double as Goan film favourites will feature in not one but two films releasing in January 2018. Sangati Creations’ maiden venture, ‘Zanvoy No. 1’, has been written and directed by Harry Fernandes Barkur, whose previous Konkani films include ‘Noshibacho Khell’ and ‘Sophiya’. Noted film actress Varsha Usgaonkar plays the lead role in the film and the cast includes Kevin D’Mello, Josita Anola Rodrigues (Miss South Asia Teen and finalist of World Teen Super Model of South Asia), Prince Jacob, Stany Alvares, Rons London, Sujatha Andrade, Ranjitha Lewis, Lyshon Fernandes and Deepak Paladka, a well-known actor from Dubai. This project has been designed by well-known theatre and social activists Cyril Castelino, Leo Fernandes and Walter D’Souza of Sangati Creations. The film has been edited by Abhishek Mhaskar, music composed by trio Eric Ozario, Jerry Bondel and Gunwant Sen with lyrics penned by Jerry Bondel, Llyod Rego and Harry Fernandes. “‘Zanvoy No.1’ is a super combination of thrill, action, comedy, romance and high voltage drama. It is predicted to create a new landmark in the Konkani film industry. The movie is scheduled to release in the second week of January 2018,” says Cyril Castelino, the producer of the film. Varsha Usgaonkar, on her last visit to Goa, had said, “I am playing the role of a mother-in-law in the film and it is a wonderful film. This will be my debut film in Konkani. I am looking forward to the release of the film. There are many Goans who have acted with me in this film. Prince Jacob is a very versatile tiatr actor who has also done films. Kevin is an upcoming and good actor. Irrespective of the language, I hope people will watch the film, which will have subtitles. It is a ‘paisa vasool’ movie and an out and out comedy.” ‘Planning Devachem’ recently released its trailer in the city. The film will have its premiere on January 9, 2018 at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao at 7:30om. The film is directed by Rajesh Fernandes and produced by Severino Fernanades. The cast includes Tapan Acharya, Prince Jacob, Cecile Rodrigues, Seema Butelho, John DSilva, Kenny, Annie Quadros, Anil Pednekar, Sunil Pednekar, Ron Rodrigues, Neilia Fernandes, Socorro Dsouza and John Aguiar. Music is by Rafael Vinay, DOP is Ramesh Babu and the Action Direction is by Thriller Manju. “The movie talks about tackling the Drug nexus in Goa. It has romance, action, comedy, suspense and is packed with entertainment. The action scenes include a lot of vehicle chases and ‘Matrix’ style fighting. The songs in the film also feature item songs with Indo Portuguese and Spanish fusion. The film will deliver a strong message,” says Severino. Cecille Rodrigues will be making her film debut with ‘Planning Devachem’. “Shooting for an acting scene for a film and shooting for a dancing scene on a reality show are completely different experiences. For reality shows, it’s just one take while for the film, I had to learn the script, adapt to the changes on the spot, get a feel of the scene to give the right emotions and then deliver the dialogues. I was very happy that my first film itself had two songs, which I could dance. I also got to try my hand at action scenes as well as the romance,” says Cecille.
