Liverpool crowned English Champions

Liverpool to be crowned as the winners of English Premier League is indeed a big event, not only for the English club but also for their talented players, their hard-working master strategist manager cum coach Jürgen Klopp and all the hardcore supporters in England and across the world. India too has substantial number of ardent fans supporting Liverpool. However they had to wait for long 30 years to achieve this incredible feat.  Had it not been for the Covid-19 pandemic the competition leading to finish would have been very interesting and exciting, inspite of Liverpool having a convincing lead over their challengers Man City. Interestingly the glorious victory happened without Liverpool having to kick the ball, when their second placed rivals and reigning champions Manchester City were defeated by Chelsea with a 2-1 win over them.

This meant that even if Manchester City won all the remaining matches and Liverpool lost all the remaining matches still Manchester City had no chance of overtaking the unassailable total of 86 points that Liverpool had amassed during all the previous matches and were leading the points table. Incidentally Liverpool are also the reigning European League Champions, also under Jürgen Klopp as their Manager.

Hence very warm and hearty congratulations are in order for new champs Liverpool, an amazing Club with a rich footballing history.

Good, bad and the ugly

We get them everywhere, even in religious organisations. They can survive because people reward them. We must learn to reward only the good. With such an unholy mix in all organisations we will sooner than later have to bomb start the tourism industry here. How should we go about it?

We have thousands of tourism related businesses in Goa. If Goa was a blank State, say like in the 60’s, and we wanted to explore the tourism trade: would we start building hotels equal to today’s numbers? NO. Likewise, when we are forced to open by some very bad people, we must open on a pilot basis. When doing this, we must reward those who are good. By this I do not mean those who resort to bribes or favours. I mean those who have installed their own STPs, have proper garbage disposal- not those who pay contractors to lift the garbage, which we know ends up in neighbouring village roadsides. Those who employ locals in the hotels or as contractors for providing services and and supply produce, those who do local CSR. Those who insist their tradesmen have passed out from ITI’s, who do not block beach access, who do not let out grey/black water into the sea, raise hill, demand more land or force their employees to sleep in the restaurants etc. Reward those who provided meals, shelter, transport to the thousands of their migrant employees.

Actually, none of them qualify on this last point. Maybe we give them some points if they publicly apologise on this front. With this in mind, we open only 1 beach each in North and South Goa. Restrict tourists to only these 2 beaches. Mind you, if none qualify based on the above terms then don’t open till they do qualify. We put one each of our most tooted IAS Officers to formulate SOP’s and their monitoring. This must be disclosed before start up. Then we review.

Pandemic and career prospects

The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) on Friday announced the results for class XII declaring a pass percentage of over 89 per cent. The students are now at a crucial juncture as they have to choose a career which is best suited for them. Hence career guidance assumes a lot of significance as students may not be aware of the career opportunities available. Here is where the role of the teacher becomes important. Every school undertakes career guidance activity after the class XII results are declared. However this year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it may not be possible to conduct such career guidance courses in their respective schools. Hence it would be prudent for the schools to conduct such career guidance courses online.

When students from lower classes can attend online classes, online career guidance courses can also be made available to those who have passed XII exams. Students who have passed out from professional colleges may also be clueless on how to proceed in their chosen profession as the pandemic has hit placements especially in the hospitality industry. Several firms may have also stopped the internship programs. Hopefully the pandemic will end soon so that students can pursue their chosen career.

Victims of torture

This has reference to the statement of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to call on international community to hold India accountable for its human rights abuses in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir where women, men and children have faced pellet guns, sexual assault, electrocution and physical and mental torture.

At the time of Partition in 1947 Jammu and Kashmir was under Maharaja Hari Singh and was an independent entity. In October 1947 Maharaja Hari Singh signed Instrument of Accession under which he acceeded Jammu and Kashmir to the Union of India and thus Jammu and Kashmir became an integral part of India. Pakistan is claiming Kashmir on the basis of Muslim majority, while India is claiming legally based on Instrument of Accession of 1947.

Thus Kashmir is not Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir BUT an Integral part of India and whatever is happening in the state of J&K is at the behest of terror outfits operating from Pakistan where Indian soldiers exercise maximum restraint.

New govt jobs portal

Everyone should take advantage of the online government job portal  goa.gov.in/citizen/recruitment which advertises all government jobs and now also the private employers will have to advertise their jobs online for the public. Excellent innovation at last in times of Corona virus. All youth should make use of this to apply for jobs and also prepare their careers and accordingly gain qualifications to meet these job requirements. All colleges should be made compulsory to have job cells to prepare students for work and not just turn them into puppets with degrees.

Department of Labour and our CM should ensure that this initiative of advertising govt and private is not laxed by those responsible for maintaining and updating it. Also government should offer placements to students in government departments in liaison with colleges to give students valuable hands on experience advertised on the job portal.

It seems that the humanity has died

At the time when the entire world is fighting against the noble corona virus, some terrible incident is coming out from different places which is absolutely sorrowful and shameful.

The body of a coronavirus patient, in Andhra Pradesh was shifted to the crematorium from his house in an earthmover, causing uproar from political leaders belonging to the Opposition in the state. However two officials have been suspended after the incident came to light but here is very important question that how can anyone do this with a human being while he is also a human being? Where is sympathy? Has the humanity been died?

It is very a disgusting behaviour, so I request the Indian government to please take some strict action against those who are behaving like this with bodies and insulting them that is actually unenviable crime in Indian history.
