Provide relief to Pilgao family

Antonio Diniz , Fatorda

Kudos to Herald for having highlighted the helpless plight of the Falkar family from Pilgao, Bicholim and in particular of their three children who are subjected to extreme hardships for no fault of theirs.

As reported  the family has been struggling unsuccessfully for years to obtain basic essentials such as electricity and water connections. It is shocking to note that even after more than 50 years of Liberation,  there are still houses in this tiny but quite prosperous state of Goa, without these two essential necessities for a comfortable and decent living.

It is believed that governments are elected primarily to provide balanced development that benefits mainly poor and the needy and not only to  further contribute to the welfare of those who are already well off.

The pathetic story of Falkars clearly shows  the apathy by the public authorities  and elected representatives, who are either unable or unwilling to attend to the basic needs of the citizens in an impartial and sympathetic manner.

It seems that promises made during electioneering by the politicians are merely casual and meaningless statements without any responsibility and accountability.
