All over the world Democracies hold elections. When results are declared, they may be shocking, both for the people and the political parties. People seem to have lost faith in their governments and desperately want change, any change but the old system in vogue.

So we have Brexit, election of strong leaders who will dare to change the existing laws and rules with hopes of a better and safer environment and living conditions. That explains Trump in America, Erdogan in Turkey, Duterte in the Philippines. Even other nations have revered autocratic leaders like Putin in Russia, Xhi in China, Kim Jong Un in North Korea. In India we have the Modi Sarkar that is winning the elections and rendering all the opposition impotent. World democracies have badly polarized citizens who are wondering if they have bargained for a future that will probably be worse than what they were being inflicted on by the previous regime! It is with a sad heart that I witness intolerance and fundamentalism in our country and the plight of the army that is being called more and more to quell civil unrest.  What is the future of India? We can improve only if we are ready to admit the reality on the ground/facts and consult the people before legislation or expediting ordinances. For harmony the democratic governments must serve and not rule!

After the Cow (and Peacock) ridiculous comments of a Rajasthan High Court Judge, we had a Hyderabad High Court Judge say "Cow is a sacred national wealth substitute to mother and God!". Uttarkhand CM Trivendra Rawat (former RSS Pracharak) inaugurated a new cowshed at his official residence and he and his wife participated in an official cow worship ritual. It is understood that Vinayak Damodar Savarkar staunchly opposed cow worship calling the practice "Buddhi Hatya" or "Murder of intellect". He was in this matter, in line with our Constitution promoting nurturing of cows so long as it was on a broader economic and scientific principles! . Reportedly school text books are being revised hiding this, extolling  Savarkar.

Mahatma Gandhi is a post script and no mention of Godse shooting Gandhi either or why B.R. Ambedkar renounced Hindu religion and with his followers’ en mass became Buddhists. Dr Charudutta Pingile of the HJS says there should be a beef ban across India and he wrongly quotes Mahatma Gandhi (whom Amit Shah calls "Bahut Chatur Baniya"). It is also said "As per Hindu faith, cow is not just a mother but it is abode of 33 crore Hindu Gods".

The grand Hindu convention in Ponda held June 14 to 17 discussed how India must become a Hindu Rashtra with their idea of Hindu culture and revised history being imposed!  Communal comments were rampant like Muslims and Christians have to Ghar Wapsi (become Hindus) or leave India voluntarily, those eating beef publicly hanged etc with no action from the BJP government! Ban beef, Ban Pub culture, Ban skirts, Ban Hindu girls going out/loving boys from other castes and religions, Love Jihad. Ban books/movies and art from touching sensitive/ controversial topics. Hindustan turning into Banistan with mobocracy?  Political patronage is obvious, emboldening the so called fringe elements which have become main stream! The modus operandi of the BJP is first simply denying and discrediting people or news. Due persistent proof and public pressure they condemn it and the law will take its course. It is obvious that justice in our country is generally delayed, selective and some are above the law! This was clearly evident when MLAs have misbehaved with the airlines. The only significant deterrent action was delayed no fly list being prepared for airlines. Why when they have legislated that life imprisonment be given to anyone killing a cow, there is no enthusiasm to arrest and prosecute to life imprisonment the Gau Rakshas personnel who are responsible for lynching people, that too sometime on just a rumor!

Sixty five of India’s most respected and well-known former senior bureaucrats of impeccable credentials have written an open letter decrying the growing climate of religious intolerance and bullying majoritism choking dissent as sedition or anti nationalism! Right from writers returning their awards to our greatest world renowned artist late Makbool Hussein being hounded, to moral policing and ABVP student’s wing in educational institutes, this deadly polarization is in full flow! What is frightening is the covert support the Hindutva brigade enjoys to carry out its nefarious agenda. Recently all across India, people from all walks of life protested with placards “Not In My Name”, “Is It So Easy To Divide Us” etc. At last the PM has issued a stern warning to the militant Gau Rakshas and mobs lynching in the name of cow! Writing off farmer’s loans to win the UP elections opened a Pandora's Box of illegal imprudent unsustainable financial immorality for political gain! The NDA government handling of the Naxalite, Maoist, Gorkhaland demand and Kashmir issues spell dangerous portents. An open letter by ex Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Ramdas addressed to the President and Prime Minister says “the Hinduism I knew was not of violence and intolerance fanning the flames of division and fear across the country. If we do not stem the rot now, it might be too late”. People all over the world are apprehensive about dangerous rapidly changing conditions!
