82nd & 83rd minutes: Footballing lessons to remember forever

Usman Khan Pathan

The 82nd minute of the India vs Columbia Football match of the FIFA U-17 World Cup, created history and once again proved that there is no substitute for hard work and dedication. Jeakson Singh was the star and world was the audience. The gem, once rejected as 'unnaturally tall', became a tall figure in the history of Indian Football. He became the only World Cup goal scorer in football for India, a lifetime achievement at a very young age. Although India lost the match and were out of the World Cup, the 16-year-old admitted that the whole team has learned lots of lessons from the match.

To make this experience of the young lads more counting, the whole nation needs to learn lessons from this. The 82nd minute although brought glory to India, the very next minute had huge lessons to learn. Overwhelmed by the feat achieved after scoring the goal, the team was on the cloud nine and couldn't shift focus back on the game, which resulted in Columbia equalising in 83rd minute and ultimately winning the match. Everything said and done, one should always be balanced in approach and should not get swayed away. Although it is a huge achievement for Jeakson,  a little more balanced approach might have done more good to Indian Football.

Similarly, as citizens of a society, we too witness moments of glory and success in our lives. A balanced approach in such times would be to sit back and think on how the society can benefit from one’s achievements and success. One has to ponder over how a particular outcome can benefit the larger society, rather than just making that outcome exclusive to oneself. Even if a person has all the good intentions, the immediate approach to a particular thing at times changes the whole direction.

Thus while working for the reconstruction of the society, one has to always synchronise and learn to relate with the larger society. Well the young Indian team has prepared a lot of notes after the World Cup campaign, it’s time for us too, to spend some time and ponder over it.
