Crime: No let up

R Fernandes

In 2017 there were 33 kidnapping cases in Goa. What is the figure in 2018? A couple of days back there was an attempt to kidnap a child outside an ATM in broad daylight with her father nearby in the queue! What does this tell you? Keep in mind that there are 40000 cases of children being kidnapped—year in and year out in India without any let up or reduction! It tells you that:

Child napping is not a priority for the Police or the Govt. Should not the Assembly raise this issue at every session, till there is zero cases in Goa?

The DGP is concentrating on drunk driving: this is good but this can easily be delegated to his subordinates. Should not his superior qualifications and skills be used for kidnappings cases especially since the same is still low and manageable? That, for decades after Liberated Goa had not a single case of kidnapping?

Kidnappers, as also other criminals, have scant respect for the Goa Police and Administration.

Dailies reported a student cheating a girl student from his college to try out smoking. The same was laced with narcotics after which the male student, along with a ‘businessmen’ allegedly molested her photographing the incident.

This incident means there are many such cases not reported. Hope some more brave victims also come out.

The DGP is aware of the serial ‘Savdhan India’, based on true Police cases, and the horrific crimes therein, unheard of in Goa, slowly creeping into our midst, including child sacrifice: what is he doing about it? The Bihar shelter home incident is far away from his mind.

Unless there is action, nothing will happen. Since a ‘Businessman’ is involved, the case will likely  fall through. And these crimes will continue. Let us see the DGP prove himself here.

What is the College Administration doing in the case? They need to conduct an internal investigation into how the student was into pushing drugs and rusticate him immediately. Can the DGP advise them?
