Insensitive faces on Social Media

Antonio Diniz

Social media like Facebook, Whatsapp, Tweeter  are great platforms to express and communicate freely news, views, opinions and even extreme feelings built up in our hearts and minds. Those who read may agree or disagree and even may offer their adverse comments and weird suggestions. Generally most people patronising social media expect what's written to be sensible, rational and devoid of any personal attack or character assassination. Very often it does not happen that way.

When such writings are focused on political figures for their indiscretions and corrupt practices, all fury breaks out and very often common sense, reason and decency take a back seat and limits of anger and frustration are crossed and surpassed. It's also a fact that no politician is ever hundred percent popular or his/her political views and ideologies are always acceptable to everyone.

Some of them are hated, cursed and even attacked publicly specially when they are part of the government or occupy top public positions,  because many feel that their actions and behaviour are not as per people's expectations.

However all such actions have to be greatly controlled and moderated when situations take a different turn and unexpected events occur, especially when anyone including our worst enemy is afflicted by serious ailment or life threatening health condition.

In this regard I intend to point out, about some very insensitive and disgusting comments made by some in the social media when CM Manohar Parrikar had to be hospitalized and later shifted to a Mumbai hospital. Some comments are certainly inhuman and products of insane minds.

Let's not forget that illness of any kind does not distinguish between people and politicians and their parties or ideologies.  Anyone from any religion, caste or creed can be a serious victim and even  a casualty. It spares none whether politician or just a plain voter.

Hence it's necessary to be humane and concerned and extend good will and prayers to victims of grievous life threatening ailments.
