Respect our Healthcare workers

Respect our Healthcare workers

Jill Dale Rodrigues

A doctor is looked up to treating us of various ailments that we tend to experience in our life.

From conception in a mother's womb to the birth of a child, to the various stages of growing and ultimately old age. A doctor does all he/she can to help with life.

Having said that, even nurses and the medical team they too display a lot of care to an ailing patient. We cannot ignore it.

Every since Covid-19 has surrounded us, these very doctors, nurses and medical fraternity have worked day in and day out, risking their life's some even living away from their parents, families, children just to make sure that their families are not affected with the virus. Not that they are carriers but to just be safe and be responsible towards their work.

To then read, that amidst the sudden rise in Covid-19 deaths, that doctors and nurses are abused and families break life saving machinery like the need of the hour ventilators, where is your common sense? How can you even touch a Doctor who has and is doing everything possible to treat and heal the patient? Why abuse the doctor and nurses? You think, just because they have to keep a check on your ailing relative, that they are responsible for their death?

Its a wake up call to all of us, in this current  situation, which a few in the medical field kept insisting, social distancing, mask properly, stay indoors unless it's urgent and it's your job related, else stay home. We all were forewarned about the second wave, sadly, instead of realizing it, some just thought nothing will happen.

Remember, a patient's death is never an easy task for a doctor to announce the time of death, if you feel the doctor does not feel it, don't underestimate a doctor's feelings, they are made strong, that's why they have chosen to serve the masses. Whether through private practice or Government hospitals.

What example do we set out by abusing doctor's and nurses? Can 1 doctor manage 4 casualties at the same time? Who do we blame?

As a child, I once came across this line "Doctor saves life" and its true, a doctor saves life that's why we ought to learn  appreciate the doctor's work towards the patients. What we lack in our society is to appreciate, give a smile to the tired, standing on feet for hours together all those in the medical fraternity.

Learn to take care of yourself, doctors have been saying this since last year, be careful, cautious movements but if we try to defy what's advised to us, then who do we blame?

Do not harm our medical fraternity, the last that anybody wants right now is doctor's not getting to work in the fear that if they are harmed they might be hurt, remember that Goa is going through its worst phase now with the rising Covid positive cases and deaths at the same time it is not easy for any of us.

Please think twice before you blame or doubt the medical fraternity. A simple prayer for them at this hour will heal all of us.
