Wake up Goans

Wake up Goans

Olavo Fernandes

The goings on in our tiny State Goa are truly disturbing whether it is the Melauli stir, the communal happenings in Sancoale or the Double tracking and the Mollem denudation of our last hidden gem!

If one is to ponder on any of these issues facing Goa, it is clearly a case of the Goan politicians taking the Goenkar for granted. If this was not the case, then how was it possible for a group of elected representatives to switch sides and join the ruling side? Was it because they were so serious about addressing the common Goan's interests or interests of their own and that of those at the Centre?

The VP has just gone on record saying that Goa would have done much better if there was more political stability (Herald 09/01/2021) His words say it all! Do those words imply that BJP should eliminate all the opposition so that it can carry out its grand plans of destroying Goa in the name of development without any opposition as is being blatantly done at the National level? Or do they imply some other sinister moves?

Demonetisation, Kashmir, Farmer laws ....have all been decisions taken in a draconian fashion, by suppression of the opposition which itself has unfortunately been reduced to near extinction.

Do Goans want to wait for the little that is still left to get completely wiped out once and for all? Wake up Goenkar, as you have to remember all Goans are not Goenkars nowadays...Let's get back the Goem that our Freedom fighters fought for and left for us. It is the duty of every Goenkar to preserve and protect it for our future generations.

Let us do what it takes to get our rightful share of Mhadei water being sold to Karnataka, let us protect the little left of Mollem. Let us not let our Goenkar Brethren's Historic Mansions and dwellings along the present Railway tracks be demolished, let us not ........ the list goes on and on...

The ongoing Punjab agitation is a classic example of unity among the Punjab farmers.......fighting a just cause. A cause for repealing the laws that were designed without their consultations and with a Government refusing to blink, it no longer feels that this is a "government for the people"

Similarly, Goenkars need to up their ante.....go on the streets, block railway tracks and adopt all measures to wake up our elected representatives who it is amply evident, do not represent Goenkars and Goa, but represent their selfish selves and the Government at the centre.

It is imminent, that Goans will have to eventually resort to an opinion poll and oust the present government and the elected representatives (who it is now amply clear do not represent the people of Goa) for acting and taking draconian decisions that truly do not benefit Goa and Goenkars, rather than wait till all is lost.

We have to act fast and act now!
