Who assessed performance index on SDGs?

Who assessed performance index on SDGs?

Wesley Edward Pereira

Has Goa signed a memorandum of understanding with German-based Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to develop a state energy plan for a 100% renewable energy road map under the Indo-German Program on 'Access to Energy in Rural Areas?

Is the access to energy in rural areas a stand-alone project  for existing  local villagers? Or  does it involve massive solar power plant equipment for  the unwanted housing development, industrial & tourism  projects to be planned under Vision 2030 in notified (or to be notified?) urban villages of Goa ? What happens to the massive solar plants equipment after the the useful life of the project?

KPMG are the Goa Tourism Master Plan consultants and are the financial consultants for Mopa airport.

The railway double tracking, the power project and the Goa to Hyderabad economic road corridor (Bharatmala Pariyojana) all passing through the ecologically sensitive Western Ghats are  components of the hidden industrial, urbanisation & tourism  business plans linked to the South Konkan-Maharashtra Coastal Economic Zone for promoting the unwanted Mopa Airport.

What  is the purpose of Goa Institution for future Transformation (GIFT)?

The SDG Vertical, in collaboration with Union Ministries and States/ UTs, is the nodal agency for coordinating and monitoring the Sustainable Development Goals. Through the approach of cooperative and competitive federalism, the Vertical works towards accelerated adoption, implementation, and monitoring of the SDG framework and related initiatives at the national and sub-national levels.

The Vertical works closely with key stakeholders—including the Government, civil society, private sector, academia, think tanks, research organisations, and multilateral organisations—to fast-track the achievement of SDGs in the country.

Monitoring progress achieved under the SDG framework at the global, national, and sub-national levels is the core function of the Vertical. NITI Aayog prepares and presents India’s Voluntary National Review (VNR) on Sustainable Development at the United Nations. For national and sub-national progress monitoring, the Vertical has developed the SDG India Index and Dashboard, the official and principal SDG progress monitoring tool of the country.

The States and UTs play a pivotal role in the achievement of SDG targets at the national level. The Vertical works closely with the State/UT Governments and supports them in a range of initiatives for SDG localisation—including the State and District Indicator Frameworks, review mechanisms, and capacity building.

The Vertical and GIZ have entered into a partnership to take SDG localisation to the city level. Both parties will collaborate on developing an index and dashboard to monitor and report the progress on achieving the SDG targets at the city level. The collaboration also aims at training and capacity-building programmes on data-driven urban governance for urban local bodies’ officials. The partnership has been formalised through an MoU signed by both the organisations in October 2020.

The SDG Vertical partners with KPMG on private sector integration for SDGs, which aims to measure the impact of the business sector on the SDGs.

Who were in the panel to assess the recently announced performance index of the states on Sustainable Development Goals?

One of the urgent target of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG)-6 was to protect and restore water-related ecosystems, including mountains, forests, wetlands, rivers, aquifers and lakes. The protection of the water-related ecosystems including coastal wetlands such as age-old mangroves and salt marshes, inland wetlands & upland forests is critical for implementing nature-based solutions for mitigating disaster risks. Has the State of Goa achieved this required target by the year 2020 to get top ranking in SDG-6?
