Is wanted in two cases by Crime Branch and in one case by Calangute Police

PANJIM: Wanted in two cases by Crime Branch and in one case by Calangute Police Station, ex-Indian Navy personnel Ravikant Yadav who was absconding for over six months was finally caught in the police net.

Yadav, having a criminal background, was arrested by Karwar police in the neighboring district and handed over to Crime Branch (CB) on Wednesday.

He is wanted in various offences, including conspiracy to kill a businessman. “CB has taken his custody. He will be produced before the court on Thursday to obtain his police custody,” SP Dinraj Govekar, holding additional charge of CB, told Herald.

Yadav is accused of hiring some shooters from Delhi and Haryana to kill businessman Gajendra (Chotu) Singh of Anjuna, reportedly because of business rivalry.

Singh had claimed that Yadav, once his good friend, owes him Rs 25 lakh. On repeated demands to return the loan amount, Yadav allegedly plotted the businessman’s murder and hired the shooters, who were arrested by Crime Branch. The police immediately registered an FIR and launched a search for him. With Yadav’s arrest, Calangute police are likely to move the court seeking transfer of his custody in threat to kill and extortion case which was also registered against him last year.

Yadav was on the run ever since CB had raided a prostitution den in Porvorim wherein he is accused of running the illicit trade in guise of a spa. Girls hailing from Nepal, Maharashtra and Assam, aged between 21 and 25 years of age, were rescued from the premise while Ritesh Naik, the spa manager was arrested. However, Alam Shah, Yadav, and Vipin Singh managed to escape were also arrested in past.

As per details shared by the CB, the trio would traffic girls from different states and force them into prostitution.
