PANJIM: NTPC Limited, electric power distribution company, has allocated an additional 50 Mega Watt of power to Goa, which will help end the domestic load restrictions in the State.

The State government has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Solar Energy Corporation of India for supply of wind power. By November 2018, the State will receive 50 MW of wind power at a rate of Rs 2.65 per unit.

Disclosing this to media persons, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said he had approached the Union Power Minister with a request for additional power supply of 80MW, which is the current requirement.

“The State power requirement currently is 577MW. During the peak hour, the load requirement reaches even 600MW,” Parrikar said. “NTPC has allotted us additional 50MW of power. This has helped reduce the domestic load,” he added.

Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar said the additional power will benefit peak hour consumers. “NTPC 50MW power and another 50MW of wind power, coupled with solar power, will help us to reduce our dependency on thermal power,” he said.
