Process to begin only after proposal from State

PANJIM: The Centre is likely to decide the line of action in filing a review petition in the mining lease renewal matter next week subject to approval from the Attorney General of India. The process will begin only after a proposal from the State government even as the Cabinet Advisory Committee (CAC) has decided to recommend a review plea in the Supreme Court.

“It is a court decision (to stop the mining operations). Whatever we can do has to be within the legal framework. We will take the Attorney General’s opinion and then the Centre will start preparing line of action, probably from next week. The Goa government, this week, will send its proposal to Centre (to file a review petition),” Lok Sabha MP Advocate Narendra Sawaikar said at a press conference on Monday.

On March 14, the CAC had resolved to recommend to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar the filing of a review petition in the matter, subject to legal advice from the Attorney General of India.

During his visit to Goa on March 20, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had assured that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had instructed him to solve the problems arising due to the SC decision.
