Assistant vets needed at Valpoi animal husbandry sub-centres
The animal husbandry sub-centres of Sattari taluka have to function without the services of veterinary assistants for quite some time now; Currently the whole taluka has only one veterinary assistant; Main office functions without a clerk and a peon
VALPOI: The animal husbandry sub-centres of Sattari taluka have to function without the services of veterinary assistants, which has increased the workload with each passing day and farmers have to bear the brunt of this and face problems.
The farmers in the taluka have demanded that the government appoint the veterinary assistants at the earliest.
Besides, the main office of Animal Husbandry Department, Valpoi functions without the services of a clerk and a peon.
What’s more, the Morlem village animal husbandry sub-centre, Ravna village sub-centre and Poriem village sub-centre also does not have veterinary assistants. Farmers point out that for the past five years, only one veterinary assistant from Keri Animal Husbandry sub-centre has been handling all the three animal sub-centres.
Due to the shortage of veterinary assistants at Animal Husbandry Department, Valpoi, farmers are facing major problems as one veterinary assistant cannot attend to the calls of all farmers in the area. The routine cases of artificial insemination of cows and other check-up takes a long time and one veterinary assistant cannot handle all the jobs, says Vithal Gawas, a farmer.
There are around four thousand cows in the taluka right now and the number of cows has been increasing each year, adds another farmer Govind Gaonkar and demanded the that the government appoint the veterinary assistants soon.
