Dr Frederico Miranda has been selected from a global pool as a medical volunteer at the World Cup. There were 1,70,000 applications for the volunteer programme all over the world. From this 17000 were shortlisted and around 800 selected.

Miranda, who can speak Russian and Portuguese fluently, besides English and Hindi, will be working in the medical and anti-doping functional area. He believes this is a good opportunity for students and feels more Goan students should try for this programme at future World Cup editions. He will be present for all the matches at Luzhniki Stadium that will host the opening match and the finals. Staying 30 minutes from the stadium, Miranda who landed in Russia on June 9, will be there till July 18.

After the group stages he will be present for the Round of 16 game, the semi final and the final. He will be watching the Portugal and Spain game at Sochi with his Goa friends.
