MARGAO: After training 11,714 girls in north Goa Baldota Group’s Defence Against Rape and Eve Teasing (DARE), initiative will be taken to train girls in South Goa in the next two months, permission by the Directorate of Education has been granted.

Through a two-hour workshop that includes lectures, demonstration and practice, girls studying in the VIII standard are guided how to deal with situations like molestation, ogling, stalking and even rape. Based in Hospet, Karnataka the group has trained over one lakh girls in India, most of whom are from Karnataka.

“Not only do we give self-defence tricks and techniques, but also boost the confidence of the girls to come forward and report misbehavior with our resource persons, if not teachers and parents,” said H K Ramesh Baldota Group’s Deputy General Manager.

DARE was started three years back after the infamous Nirbhaya incident, he said and added that they have proposed to visit all schools where the workshop was held after six months for a follow up.

Darshana Prabhudessai, who is coordinating the workshops in Goa said at least 10 girls have admitted to being victims of sexual harassment in either of the forms and added that the molestation and stalking cases have occurred even in the school premises.

She said girls have complained of being sexually abused by their siblings and added that cyber crime complaints, where the girls are being blackmailed is quite prevalent in Goa.
