PANJIM: Claiming that no new posts have been created in the last seven years by the State government, DEd-qualified teachers on Tuesday threatened to go on strike, if the government does not create new posts.

The teachers also demanded that the government form a committee to determine why government primary schools are on the verge of closure.

“We are upset with the State government. For the past seven years, there have been no new posts created. One one side more DEd-qualified teachers are passing out and on the other side the government schools are shutting,” DEd-qualified teacher Gauri Josal said.

She added, “Every year there are 250 teachers who pass out with DEd. If the government does not create posts we will resort to a strike.”

They said there are some teachers who will cross the age limit for appointment in government and it would be difficult for them to get a teaching job.

“The government must form a committee to know why government primary schools are on the verge of closure. They should work out a solution to bring back students to these schools instead of them opting for private schools,” another teacher said.
