PANJIM: Goa Police have launched an inquiry into an altercation between a police sub inspector and constable that was reported at GRP Camp on Monday. Director General of Police Muktesh Chander said that the Superintendent of Police (IRB) has been appointed to conduct an inquiry and submit the report within a week.

“SP IRB is conducting an inquiry and based on it (the inquiry report) the culprit would be punished. We will not know who is at fault until the inquiry is complete,” Chander said, replying to Herald’s question whether the department has taken serious cognisance of the unruliness by the men-in-khaki. The report is expected to be submitted to the DGP within a week.

A PSI and a constable posted at the GRP camp, entered into a bitter verbal duel over a petty issue on Monday. As per allegations leveled by the constable, the PSI then flung a book at him. However, a medical examination has not ascertained body injury. Panjim police have confirmed that there is no police complaint filed against any of the two.

Herald, in its Tuesday edition had reported that the department was likely to initiate an inquiry into the incident although no complaint had been lodged.
