VASCO: Union Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu on Monday emphasised that the central government intends to make Goa as the national capital for startups.

“Our idea is that Goa should be the national capital for startups. Under Invest India initiative, Goa has been propagated as top investment destination. This will also facilitate Goa as a destination for investment,” he told reporters, after holding a meeting with senior ministers of Goa state at Dabolim airport on Monday

“Today after having interaction with State ministers it has been decided we will observe innovation day in Goa on April 26, which I will also attend. In June we will invite the World Bank, International Finance Corporation and global venture capitalists to Goa to have a round-table discussion on how we can nurture the ecosystem for the startups in the country,” Prabhu stated

Invest India, is under my ministry in the department of industrial policy and promotion and I have issued directions to officers to promote Goa globally for investment, he said, adding that multiple ideas were being considered and hopefully in October the global event for startups can be organised, where all the startup communities in the world would be invited.

Prabhu expressed happiness over the fact that Goa government was willing to make this an annual event and hoped world-class global startups would be drawn to Goa to participate.

For the skill development the civil aviation ministry has also launched a major programme foreseeing huge job requirement in the aviation sector, whether in the cockpit, flying crew or on the ground, workforce is required everywhere.
