Proposal sent by TCP currently being vetted by Law Department; Babush Monserrate set to chair new authority

PANJIM: Former St Cruz Congress MLA Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate is set to chair the Greater Panjim Planning and Development Area (PDA), which is likely to be constituted in the next two days.

The Law Department is current vetting the proposal submitted by Department of Town and Country Planning (TCP) for constituting the 17-member Greater Panjim PDA under the chairmanship of Monserrate, who is currently with Goa Forward Party.

“The PDA is yet to be constituted. We have submitted the proposal with names of members to the Law Department for vetting. The file is expected to be cleared by Tuesday,” Chief Town Planner Rajesh Naik said.

“In the next two days the new PDA will be constituted,” he added.

Panjim MLA Manohar Parrikar, Taleigao MLA Jennifer Monserrate, St Andre MLA Francis Silveira, St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes and Cumbharjua MLA Pandurang Madkaikar are likely to be members of the new PDA. The Greater Panjim PDA will include 14 villages covering Taleigao, Bambolim plateau and Kadamba plateau.

“The proposal is currently pending before Law Department for vetting. Once it is clear, the PDA will be notified,” Minister for Town and Country Planning (TCP) Vijay Sardesai confirmed to Herald.

The Sarpanchas of Taleigao, Chimbel, St Cruz, Old Goa and Curca-Bambolim-Talaulim, are other likely members of the committee.

Former senior town planner Pedro Coutinho, Mario Fernandes, businessman Vivek Angle, Raj Malik and Atrey Sawant are others proposed to be members of the PDA.

The Greater Panjim PDA has been formed by bifurcating areas from the North Goa Planning and Development Authority (NGPDA).
