PONDA: PWD Minister Sudin Dhavlikar on Thursday said that to ease traffic on the old Khandepar Bridge at Ponda, the government would open the new parallel bridge for one-way traffic from June.

The minister was speaking to the reporter after inspecting new Khandepar bridge on Thursday.

“Though work on the new bridge is still underway, but considering the hardship faced by the public and the students due to traffic congestion on the old bridge, the government has decided to allow one-way traffic on this new bridge from June this year. The one way traffic from Usgao to Ponda will through the new bridge, while traffic proceeding from Ponda to Usgao will through old bridge,” he said.

After taking stock of the work, he said that the concrete slab work on one span of the bridge is completed and rest of the three spans and other essential works would be completed on 15 June.

The new bridge and a seven km stretch of national highway from Khandepar Bridge to Ponda along with flyovers and underpass were to be completed within nine months.
