MAPUSA: The Chairman of the Market Committee, Sushant Harmalkar along with the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) Councillor Franky Carvalho carried out a surprise inspection in the Mapusa flower market on Thursday.

The inspection comes a day after the Goan traditional vendors’ meeting with MMC Chairperson, Ryan Braganza. After listening to their grievances, Ryan had assured to resolve the issue within a week.   The Goan traditional vendors sell their produce at the Mapusa flower market.

Franky explained that this inspection was carried out to check if the wholesale flower vendors are selling garlands. There are approximately 20 wholesale vendors in Mapusa flower market.

“There are around 40 local vendors selling garlands in the flower market. Their earnings are nominal as they sell in small quantity. We have received complaints from the traditional vendors that the wholesale flower vendors are indulging in sale of garlands at a lower price and affecting their business,” Franky informed.

“We have warned them against indulging in the sale of loose flowers and garlands. If caught doing so, action will be taken against them,” he added.

Assuring to look into the local vendors’ demands, the MMC warned of strict action against the violators.
