Gram sabha adopts resolution demanding scrapping of RP21 and abolition of PDAs
MARGAO: The Navelim residents have, in one voice, rejected the government proposal to have a police station in their village, at the gram sabha on Sunday.
Besides, the villagers also adopted a resolution opposing the Regional Plan 2021 and demanding scrapping of the planning and development authorities (PDAs).
The gram sabha not only objected to setting up of a police station in the panchayat building, but also rejected having a police station in the village itself.
The basic argument was that Navelim is very close to Margao and the Margao Town Police station is a few kms away which is manageable and since there was a police station so close that meets all their needs, the villagers said there was no need to have another police station in their village.
It may be recalled that the government had decided to have a police station at Navelim to ease the pressure on Margao Town Police Station which has jurisdiction over the village and surrounding areas. In fact, a team of police officials inspected Navelim including the panchayat building and had recommended setting up the police station in the panchayat building.
The gram sabha also adopted a resolution demanding the scrapping of Regional Plan 2021 that has been now partly thrown open. Repeating the chant of the Goencho Avaaz meeting held on Lohia Maidan on April 27, the villagers said that the Regional Plan has to be redrawn.
Demanded the scrapping of the Planning and Development Authorities and the outline development plans prepared by them, the villagers also said that there should be one regional plan for the entire State of Goa.
The gram sabha also approved a balanced budget for 2018-19 with the income being Rs 1.10 crore and expenditure also being Rs 1.10 crore. However, the panchayat has an opening balance of Rs 1.35 crore.
