PANJIM: The Superintendant of Police North Goa Ms Chandan Chowdhary maintains that the role of the Goa Police in the 300 million dollar financial scam in Dubai involving a Goan prime accused Sydney Lemos, will come into play only if there is complaint registered locally in Goa or if there is a request from a foreign investigating agency.

In an email to Herald, in response to the story on the front page of the Sunday edition, “Goa Police intimated 2017 of Goa Dubai Fraud”, Ms Chowdhary stated, “There are established legal protocols and procedures for assistance with respect to international/cross border crimes. There was no request from the foreign investigating agency in this regard. We have no jurisdiction over the investigation in crimes committed on foreign territory.”

On the letter received by her from the Consulate General of India in Dubai in September 17, SP North termed is as an “administrative request’. “We did an enquiry with respect to the administrative request from the Consulate General of India, Dubai and a reply was sent.”
