PANJIM: In the biggest seizure of charas this year, the Anti Narcotic Cell (ANC) in a raid at Mapusa arrested one Raj Sharma, a 32-year-old native of Mahipalpur, Delhi and seized 6 kg of charas worth Rs 18 lakh.

Based on reliable information, the ANC led by PSI Manjunath Naik along with two panchas conducted the raid between 8:40 hrs of December 16 and 12:30 hrs on the following day near Gandhi circle, Bombay Bus stand, Mapusa.

The ANC officials said the accused disclosed having brought the said consignment along the Nepal border and had come down to Goa to supply the same to other drug peddlers in Goa with whom he had forged a deal.

However, ANC foiled their plan of supplying drugs to these peddlers and thereby prevented the consumption of drugs on a large scale.

“Charas worth Rs 18 lakh was seized and the same was attached under panchanama along with cash of Rs 2,500 and a mobile phone. The accused has been placed under arrest after observing all Supreme Court guidelines,” said ANC officials.

The accused was arrested under Sections 20(b) (ii)(B) of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is in progress with PSI of ANCPS.

Meanwhile, the Superintendent of Police (ANC) has declared a reward to staff of ANCPS for their commendable job.
