Wonders who the Karnataka BJP chief is to make suggestions to Sonia Gandhi; Shantaram refuses to be drawn into issue, says he would release a statement

PANJIM: While most Congress leaders refrained from reacting to BJP’s B S Yeddyurappa remarks that Sonia Gandhi must convince Goa Congress Leaders on the release of Mhadei waters, Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco wondered who the Karnataka BJP Chief was to make suggestions to the Congress central leader.

Speaking to Herald, Lourenco said, “Who is Yeddyurappa to tell Sonia Gandhi? Does he have the audacity or stature to request Mrs Gandhi and can we think of sacrificing our State? Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is still not talking of what water (will be released) – drinking or irrigation purposes.”

Condemning Yeddyurppa’s suggestions, several Congress supporters also questioned what right the Karnataka BJP Chief has to ask Gandhi to speak to her party leaders in Goa. “As Congress supporters we want to ask who is Yeddyurappa to give suggestions to our party leaders? What status or right does he has to make such a suggestion?” Congress supporters asked.

The Karnataka BJP leader had said that Gandhi, who is currently in Goa on a holiday, should speak to her party leaders who are opposing the release of water by Goa government.

Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes said he condemns the suggestions given by Yeddyurappa and that he has no right to suggest or convince the Congress leader. “Who is Yeddyurappa to convince our leader Sonia Gandhi? He should try and convince Prime Minister Narendra Modi. What stature or audacity does he have?” Fernandes asked.

Shiroda Congress MLA, Subhash Shirodkar refused to comment saying, “I cannot comment on this issue. It will be correct if you take reactions from the GPCC President.”

However, GPCC president Shantaram Naik chose not to react on the comments of the BJP Karnataka Chief stating that he would soon be releasing a statement.
