PONDA: Thousands of people, young and old, enjoyed two hours of Sunday evening watching a colorful float parade depicting Goenkarpan, traditional occupations, social issues and drug menace, at Ponda city.

PONDA: Thousands of people, young and old, enjoyed two hours of Sunday evening watching a colorful float parade depicting Goenkarpan, traditional occupations, social issues and drug menace, at Ponda city.

The tableau led by Joes Rodrigues conveyed the spirit of carnival. This was followed by floats with the themes ‘Make Goa plastic free’, ‘Save the girl child’, ‘Say no to drugs’, ‘Goychya Raponkar’, ‘Save the frog to preserve environment’, ‘Avoid tin milk and provide mother’s milk to the child’, ‘Smoking is hazardous to health’, ‘Hindu marriage ceremony’, ‘Save marine life’, ‘Stop littering garbage’, ‘Butterfly Island’ etc.

The parade route was Hotel Menion, Dada Vaidya Chowk, Ponda Police Station, SBI and later Culminated at Aguilar Ground. In family category there were 22 floats, traditional 6, club and Institution 6, joker 16. 

The Carnival Parade was flagged off by Ponda MLA Ravi Naik. Other officials attending the parade include PMC Chairperson Radhika Naik, Carnival Float Committee president Irvin Soares and city councilors.
