PANJIM: Roy Naik, son of ex-chief minister Ravi Naik, on Friday deposed before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with the ongoing investigation in the mining scam.

PANJIM: Roy Naik, son of ex-chief minister Ravi Naik, on Friday deposed before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with the ongoing investigation in the mining scam. Roy was quizzed for nearly three hours in the SIT office and is likely to be summoned again for questioning.

He has come under scanner after the investigating agency found some banking transaction from alleged accused iron ore trader Philip Jacob to the accounts of Roy. Jacob, a native of Kerala was arrested last year for alleged theft of iron ore between 2007 and 2011. He had earlier this year moved the High Court seeking quashing of the FIR against him.

Nevertheless, since bank transactions have shown an alleged link between Roy and Philip, SIT questioned Naik seeking details.

Roy’s role in the main mining case comprising 187-odd mining leases is also being investigated. “We have gathered some information and evidence pertaining to the case. It was necessary to confront him with the facts available with us. He has been questioned today (Friday) and if required, we might call him again,” a senior officer told Herald. SIT is seeking details of trading in mining between 2009 and 2012.

Roy had refused two summons on February 9 and February 14, after which SIT issued him a third summons to appear on Friday. After skipping the first summons on health grounds, Roy on Monday filed for anticipatory bail before the sessions court, Panjim fearing arrest. The matter has been adjourned to February 21 as SIT sought time to file a reply.
