Allegations have been levelled against the MLA for abetting the constructions of houses illegally

The Cuncolim Municipal Council is finding it difficult to find the solution for rapid increase in Illegal Constructions in the jurisdiction of the Municipal Council.

Those who are engaged in illegal activities are now taking help of politicians to save their illegal structures. The council is finding it difficult because some of the elected representatives are providing shelter and protection to such type of activities.

Recently Cuncolim Municipal Council received complaints from the locals stating that some illegal constructions are coming on the hillock near the Panzorconi petrol pump. Some miscreants had done some hill cutting to construct illegal houses. Some locals and non Goans without taking the permission from the property owner Sociedade the Agricola had encroached in their property and acted against the law. Acting on this Complaints Council sent the notices to those who are involved in these illegalities. Council had issued the stop order for all constructional activities in this area.

The Vice Chairperson Of Cuncolim Municipal Council alleged some of the Congress workers and Congress MLA Clafacio Dais were supporting these  illegal activities and being a local representative it was his duty to stand by the law. The Council, he said had acted according to the law to stop the illegal construction. He went on to claim MLA Dias had given these people his own land so that those without land could construct houses. “

We being the local self-governing body can’t allow such type of illegal activities in Council. No one has right to Construct house in others property. I along with the Officers of the council have inspected the site and found that many illegal structures are coming and there has been hill cutting activities are also going on that site so we have ordered to stop all those illegal constructions said Dessai. We can’t entertain such type of illegalities it is bad” said Dessai.

If one believes in the Council version it looks like they had acted according to law. There is nothing wrong in that. No one can allow illegal activities and that too on some others property. Council by acting on the permissible act and law sent notices to those who violated the rules.

But locals have something else to say. Those who received notices allege the council was targeting them. They went on say that Council officers had demanded One lakh rupees from each of them to legalize their houses. Some of them who have already Constructed house claims that Council is asking money to grant them permission for electricity and water Connection. This agitated the locals  who along with the local MLA and some of the Congress workers recently met Urban Development Minister Adv. Francisco Dsouza and requested his intervention.

Council officials say this are the pressure tactics and they will not succumb to such type of political gimmicks.
