PANJIM: As was done with the HSSC physics paper that students found difficult, Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) on Thursday termed the Class X Science paper as ‘average difficult’ claiming that questions were twisted but based on the syllabus. Students who answered the paper had complained of twisted questions and high difficult level.

Speaking to Herald, GBSHSE Chairman Ramakrishna Samant said, “We did a scrutiny of the Class X science paper with the panel of teachers and it was found that questions amounting to 10 marks were slightly difficult, that is the questions were slightly twisted but very well based on the syllabus.”

He added, “Those students who know the concept and have gone though the books well will have no difficulty in answering those questions. Usually there are questions amounting to 13 marks which are twisted but this time it amounted to 10 marks.”

Class X students had complained that the science paper was tough as compared to the previous years and claimed that some questions could not be understood.

“The paper was tough while some questions were twisted. Such type of twisted questions are never taught in school and that is the reason students find it difficult,” said a Class X student.

Parents too supported their children claiming that the difficulty level of the paper was high and demanded leniency in correction.

“For prelims the paper was not very difficult and hence students assumed it would be good in the final but it was very tough. My child is a topper in his school, yet he found it very difficult. Science marks are important to get admission in science,” said a parent Shilpa Madkaikar.

Another parent Vivek Kadam said, “My son is very upset as he was not able to finish the paper on time. It was lengthy and also difficult. We showed the question paper to the tuition teacher who too said it is difficult. Board needs to take cognisance and act.”
