PANJIM: Nearly five months after a bhang party exposed illegal activity within the jail premises at Colvale, two of the five suspended jail officials have been asked to report back to duty as the magisterial inquiry did not find anything to link them to the offence.

As per information available with Herald, Assistant Jailor Shivprasad Lotlikar and jail guard Vijay Gaonkar’s suspension has been revoked, while head guard Rajendra Wadkar and jail guards Caitan Godinho and Kiran Naik continue to remain suspended.

Inspector General of Prisons Rajendra Mirajkar confirmed this stating, “The decision to revoke suspension of the two jail officials is based on a magisterial inquiry report, which was submitted to the department about a fortnight ago.”

The Prisons Department suspended the five prison staff holding them prima facie responsible for the illegal party. Mirajkar had also proposed that the government order a magisterial inquiry into the episode.

The inquiry revealed that an illegal party had indeed been held in the jail premises, and jail guard Kiran Naik and two inmates Vinay Gadekar and Suryesh Arolkar had taken ill after consuming the ‘drink’.

The three had vomited after consuming bhang and had been rushed to the hospital. The bhang, it was alleged, was offered by another inmate Anil Bhuye, who is appointed as a cook in the jail kitchen.
