GPPDA to prepare map on the current land usage and keep it open for suggestions/objections

PANJIM: The Greater Panjim Planning and Development Authority (GPPDA) on Tuesday resolved to initiate a fresh process for drafting the Outline Development Plan (ODP) for Taleigao. The Taleigao ODP was drafted in 2006.

This was decided at the first board meeting of GPPDA under the chairmanship of Atanasio Monserrate held on Tuesday morning.

Speaking to Herald after the meeting, Monserrate said that the ODP for Taleigao is overdue since 2016. “Though in 2015 a process was initiated to review the ODP, it was halted in between,” he said.

GPPDA will prepare a map on the current land usage in the Taleigao jurisdiction, which will be later kept open for public suggestions and objections, Monserrate said.

The process to review and draft new ODP for Taleigao was initiated by North Goa Planning and Development Authority (NGPDA) in 2015, wherein it had even received 250 applications with recommendations and objections.

A sub-committee headed by then Panjim MLA Siddharat Kuncolienkar was constituted to review the applications and draft the plan. However, several villagers and BJP Taleigao Mandal objected to alterations and the plan was kept on hold.

“NGPDA had started the process but then due to some reason, it did not work out. Hence, we have now decided to draft a complete new plan, taking villagers and panchayat into confidence,” Monserrate said.

In another decision, GPPDA granted its nod for construction of a new market for Taleigao.
