MARGAO: President of Salcete Truck Owners’ Association Franky Gomes on Monday threatened that the truck owners will “paralyse” Goa if the transportation of coal by trucks is stopped.

MARGAO: President of Salcete Truck Owners’ Association Franky Gomes on Monday threatened that the truck owners will “paralyse” Goa if the transportation of coal by trucks is stopped.

Gomes argued that coal transportation is the only means for them given the fact that mining has not yet commenced.

Castigating the NGOs for demanding a ban on coal transportation in Goa, he said people working in transporting coal for even last 20 years have not fallen sick and asserted that nobody has been afflicted with cancer.

“The NGOs are simply making stories for their own interest,” he said while asserting that 65 per cent of the people working at MPT were Goans and the Goan truck owners form the balance 35 per cent of Goans depended upon MPT.

He said that around 1000 trucks including around 500 from Salcete are currently doing business with MPT and added the truck owners will not be silent spectators if their source of business is stopped.
