PANJIM: The Goa branch of the Indian Water Work Association (IWWA) will host the 50th annual convention on water conservation and management at Kala Academy from February 19-21.

This is the first time that Goa has been chosen as a venue for which the theme is ‘Water…the Elixir of Life’.

“The theme will encompass the management of water and waste water in an effective, efficient and sustainable way. There will be five technical sessions in which 81 papers will be presented over three days,” organising committee president U Parsekar told media persons. Two memorial lectures – M V Modak and V Raman Endowment Lecture – will also be held.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar will inaugurate the convention with PWD Minister Ramakrishna Dhavalikar as a guest of honour.

Parsekar said that special technical sessions on smart water and smart city are included in the context of Panjim being developed as a smart city.

Over 1100 delegates from India, US, Germany, Japan, France, Singapore and Taiwan have registered themselves.

The topics to be discussed at the convention include environmental policy and legal issues pertaining to water management at national and international level.
