‘Dredging of Sal will not affect shellfish breeding areas’

MARGAO: Traditional fishermen from Betul were assured by the government that ongoing dredging work of River Sal will avoid areas by the riverbanks where shellfish is available. Shellfish, which had disappeared in the Betul-Cutbona-Assolna belt for the last decade, only returned recently, much to the happiness of the local fishermen, who were struggling to make ends meet.

While the fishermen have shown the contractor the areas where the fish is available and how no work should be carried out in these areas, a decision was taken that the dredging of the River Sal would take place on the other side.
